Lorraine “Lara” Abbott
human(? 👀), 21
our secondary protagonist, or deuteragonist, if you will, is lara. she comes from a simple home and a simple life, an only child to loving parents. she’s quite normal. it was a totally normal reaction to shave her hair off after her mom died. it is also totally normal
(albeit, probably not recommended)to run away from all of your emotions and life problems. she ends up in college, even though she doesn’t really know what she wants other than for her life not to start yet, because it feels like it paused with her mother. see? she’s so normal.
it was also totally normal when her nightmares started changing from being about her mom’s death to being about… other people’s deaths. yeah. she’s totally normal, i promise.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Fortner
human, 21
jackie is lara’s unsuspecting roommate, a southerner who has dreams of being a photographer (and, perhaps, journalist?) in the big city. her parents, having grown up during the civil rights movement, showed her how important photography is. it’s proof, it’s evidence, it’s beauty, it’s the truth.
so when her roommate starts acting erratically, having nightmares that seem real—so real, in fact, that maybe they actually happened—jackie is determined to find this evidence and truth. and maybe, she’ll make a new best friend in the process.
